10 NBFCs surrender their Certificates of Registration to the RBI

2026-10-09 · 1 source · Reserve Bank of India

In short

The Reserve Bank of India said ten Non-Banking Financial Companies surrendered their Certificates of Registration, and the RBI cancelled those CoRs under Section 45-IA(6) of the Reserve Bank of India Act, 1934. The cancellations were linked to exits from non-banking financial institution business, meeting the criteria for unregistered Core Investment Companies, meeting the criteria for unregistered Type I NBFCs, and NBFCs ceasing to be legal entities after amalgamation, merger, dissolution or voluntary strike-off. In simple terms, these finance companies no longer need or qualify for RBI registration, so their authorisations have been withdrawn. No closing date or validity period was stated for the cancellations.

Why it matters

A change to who is authorised to operate. Cancellations and surrenders are routine housekeeping in aggregate, but they define which entities may legally carry on the regulated activity — worth checking against any entity you deal with directly. This classification and note were written here from Reserve Bank of India's own published document.
